Researching the past to understand these End Times

The colored horses in the Book of Revelation are not an exclusive occurrence for these End Times. They also appeared at a prior time within the Old Testament during Judah's great tribulation.
They represented Judah's 2 part 70 year (840 month) great tribulation.
They also represent the Church's 2 part 23 year (8400 Day) FGT but includes this 3rd part until the Rapture occurs.
ZECHARIAH 1:7-17
The colored horses of Judah's 70 year (840 month) GT

When did Zechariah's vision occur?
Upon the four and twentieth day of the eleventh month, which is the month Sebat, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the LORD unto Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo the prophet, saying,
We begin this study in verse 7. Right away we see that Zechariah received his vision after Judah's 70 year great tribulation (840 months) had ended. For it was in the 2nd year of Darius.

The colored Horses during Judah's GT
I saw by night, and behold a man riding upon a red horse, and he stood among the myrtle trees that were in the bottom; and behind him were there red horses, speckled, and white.
There is alot of information in this single verse.
The Red Horse represents God's people in a time of affliction/tribulation within the holy land... we know this from our 2300 Days.
This man riding the Red Horse is in Zechariah's current time which is after Judah's 840 month great tribulation. He stands among the myrtle trees. The myrtle tree is a picture of God's people (Isaiah 55:13). So God's people are within a time of affliction. These myrtle trees are said to be in the "bottom". The Hebrew word here for "bottom" is mtsullah (H4699) which should have been better translated as "shade". We find that the Lord "shades" or protects His people from evil and His wrath in Psalms 121:5-7:
The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand.  6 The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.  7 The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.

Why are the people of Judah still in a state of tribulation? They just came out of their 70 year great tribulation! Because they remain under the authority of Persia, under subjection without sovereignty. And they are without the ambition to rebuild the Temple. Their last righteous king, Josiah, died before their 70 year great tribulation began and they will never have another. Their authority is Persia. Despite the Temple being built later, this affliction lasted 571 years until the Church Age began in 33A.D.. It appears that is why the messenger is riding the Red Horse.

Now, behind the man on the Red Horse are Red Horses, Speckled Horses and White Horses. Why are they behind him? And why is there Red Horses if he is already riding one? Well, because they already occurred in a time past... behind him in time during Judah's 840 month (70 years) great tribulation. The Red Horse representing their first 23 years. While the Speckled Horse and White Horse represent their 2nd part. The Speckled Horse are those whom remained within Judah even though they were commanded to come out. This can be compared to those whom remain within the Church.
Jude 1:12   These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots
The White Horse are those whom obeyed the command to come out of the holy land.

What do the colored Horses represent?
Then said I, O my lord, what are these? And the angel that talked with me said unto me, I will shew thee what these be.  10 And the man that stood among the myrtle trees answered and said, These are they whom the LORD hath sent to walk to and fro through the earth.
The messenger now explains what these 3 Horses represent. They are represented as God's people at different stages of Judah's great tribulation. We know this because they are sent by the Lord. God's people (of Judah) are not only within the holy land but also outside it within Babylon, "sent to walk to and fro through the earth".
There is a question that must be asked. Why is'nt the Black Horse mentioned as is within Zechariah 6 and in Revelation 6? We know that Zechariah 1, 5 and 6 are all referring to Judah's great tribulation. The Black Horse is not a representation of His people during a certain period but instead represents the Holy Spirit which measures out knowledge, understanding and salvation during tribulation. And here in verse 9 the horses are specifically described as, "These are they whom the LORD hath sent to walk to and fro through the earth", - God's people. That is why the Black Horse is not mentioned.

Judah's 70 year GT comes to an end
11 And they answered the angel of the LORD that stood among the myrtle trees, and said, We have walked to and fro through the earth, and, behold, all the earth sitteth still, and is at rest.
Now the 3 Horses actually give an account of what they have encountered. This implies that each Horse had a rider to answer. These riders would be angels or messengers of God just as the rider of the first Red Horse that Zechariah is speaking to. God gives us a few other examples of these angels or messengers as seen within the 4 Horses and 7 churches of Revelation. Each horse had a rider and each church had an angel/messenger.
The horses declare, "all the earth sitteth still, and is at rest". When we compare scripture we find in Isaiah 14:4-7:
That thou shalt take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say, How hath the oppressor ceased! the golden city ceased The LORD hath broken the staff of the wickedand the sceptre of the rulers.  6 He who smote the people in wrath with a continual stroke, he that ruled the nations in anger, is persecutedand none hindereth The whole earth is at rest, and is quiet: they break forth into singingThese verses are describing the end of the Babylonian Empire. So we understand that they are referring to the completion of Judah's 70 year great tribulation.

When does the mercy begin?
12 Then the angel of the LORD answered and said, O LORD of hosts, how long wilt thou not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which thou hast had indignation these threescore and ten years?
The question is asked how long until Jerusalem and it's cities have mercy? It is declared that there was none during Judah's 70 year great tribulation. But the rider of the Red Horse is represented as Zechariah's time period after the 70 years and he is still inquiring when there shall be mercy. The holy land is still under subjection of Persia and God's people still do not have the ambition to rebuild the Temple. How long?

God uses the unsaved for His purpose
13 And the LORD answered the angel that talked with me with good words and comfortable words.  14 So the angel that communed with me said unto me, Cry thou, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy.  15 And I am very sore displeased with the heathen that are at ease: for I was but a little displeased, and they helped forward the affliction.
The Lord declares that He used the heathen (Babylon) to forward His objective. What does it mean, the heathen that are at easeThe Hebrew word for "at ease" is "sha'anan" which means to be secure or haughty (Strong's H7600). When we compare scripture as in the verse below, we find that God expands on this to include "careless" which can also be translated as, "misplace confidence". The heathen are secure in their own misplaced confidence.
Isaiah 32:9  Rise up, ye women that are at ease H7600; hear my voice, ye careless H982 daughters; give ear unto my speech.

Mercy comes not until the Church Age
16 Therefore thus saith the LORD; I am returned to Jerusalem with mercies: my house shall be built in it, saith the LORD of hosts, and a line shall be stretched forth upon Jerusalem.  17 Cry yet, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; My cities through prosperity shall yet be spread abroad; and the LORD shall yet comfort Zion, and shall yet choose Jerusalem.
We see in these final verses that God will return to Jerusalem with mercies and His house shall be built in it. But this will not occur for another 571 years from the end of their 70 year great tribulation for it is the spiritual Jerusalem (Jerusalem from above) to which He is speaking... the Church Age in 33A.D..  The words, "and a line shall be stretched forth upon Jerusalem" can be referencing the split of Jerusalem from the physical Temple of Israel to the spiritual Jerusalem of the Church Age. Although it is true that the Church is within physical buildings, it's the reference of the city of Jerusalem that is in view here. Also in verse 17 God speaks of His "cities through prosperity shall yet be spread abroad". For the next 571 years the territory of Israel was under Persian, Greek and Roman control, paying tribute. The holy land was distraught, poor and without a king. In fact, except for a few Books written and the non-inspired apocrypha, the Lord was silent during these years. So we know that God's cities spreading abroad is pointing to the Church Age which spread worldwide.

CONCLUSION
The colored horses mentioned here in Zechariah 1 represent God's people throughout Judah's 70 year (840 month) great tribulation. The Red Horse representing Judah's first 23 years within the holy land. The Speckled Horse representing those whom did not obey the command to leave the holy land. And the White Horse representing those whom obeyed the command and left the holy land.
ZECHARIAH 5:1-11
Judah's 70 year great tribulation

Judah's first 23 years (the Red Horse)
Then I turned, and lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a flying roll. 2 And he said unto me, What seest thou? And I answered, I see a flying roll; the length thereof is twenty cubits, and the breadth thereof ten cubits. 3 Then said he unto me, This is the curse that goeth forth over the face of the whole earth: for every one that stealeth shall be cut off as on this side according to it; and every one that sweareth shall be cut off as on that side according to it.  I will bring it forth, saith the LORD of hosts, and it shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him that sweareth falsely by my name: and it shall remain in the midst of his house, and shall consume it with the timber thereof and the stones thereof.
The people of Judah had forsaken their Lord especially their leadership, the king. This curse is from God, His spirit seeks out and knows every person, every household that has gone astray.
Deuteronomy 11:26-27  Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curseA blessing, if ye obey the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you this day: And a curse, if ye will not obey the commandments of the LORD your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods, which ye have not known.

Judah's 2nd part (the Black and White Horses)
The Black Horse = the Holy Spirit with the ephah
The White Horse = God's people whom obeyed the command to leave
5 Then the angel that talked with me went forth, and said unto me, Lift up now thine eyes, and see what is this that goeth forth. 6 And I said, What is it? And he said, This is an ephah that goeth forth. He said moreover, This is their resemblance through all the earth.
There now goes forth an ephah. An ephah is a measure, used as a measure for grain. In this sense it represents a measure of spiritual food to the people. If this ephah is now released we know that it was not present during the previous 23 years. Lets compare this to Revelation 6 with the Black Horse...
Revelation 6:5-6   And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand. And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.

7 And, behold, there was lifted up a talent of lead: and this is a woman that sitteth in the midst of the ephahLead was considered a precious metal and was one of the metals that symbolized God's people. This lead is identified as a woman. God commonly describes His people as a whole as a woman, in this case it was Israel.
Ezekiel 27:12   Tarshish was thy merchant by reason of the multitude of all kind of riches; with silver, iron, tin, and lead, they traded in thy fairs.
Ezekiel 22:18   Son of man, the house of Israel is to me become dross: all they are brass, and tin, and iron, and lead, in the midst of the furnace; they are even the dross of silver.

And he said, This is wickedness. And he cast it into the midst of the ephah; and he cast the weight of lead upon the mouth thereof. 9 Then lifted I up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came out two women, and the wind was in their wings; for they had wings like the wings of a stork: and they lifted up the ephah between the earth and the heaven.
The Lord is making a reference of the wickedness of Israel and how one woman became two.
Jeremiah 3:8   And I saw, when for all the causes whereby backsliding Israel committed adultery I had put her away, and given her a bill of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah feared not, but went and played the harlot also.

10 Then said I to the angel that talked with me, Whither do these bear the ephah? 11 And he said unto me, To build it an house in the land of Shinar: and it shall be established, and set there upon her own base.
Scripture says that both Israel and Judah were captives that were brought to the land of Shinar. In Israel's time it was controlled by the Assyrians. In Judah's time it was controlled by the Babylonians. The ephah did not follow into the land of Shinar until both Israel and Judah were within. This was during Judah's exile which continued their 70 year great tribulation. This was Judah's 2nd part. The Holy Spirit was measuring out knowledge and understanding only to those whom left the holy land during this time of affliction. This "ephah" or measure from the Holy Spirit was "established, and set there upon her own base" outside of the holy land.

ZECHARIAH 6:1-8
The colored horses of Judah's 70 year (840 month) GT

Under the authority of the Lord
And I turned, and lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came four chariots out from between two mountains; and the mountains were mountains of brass.
The 4 chariots come from 2 mountains of brass. Mountains have a few representations... strength, kingdoms and the Lord. Brass promotes the strength even higher. The examples of mountains and the Lord are too plentiful to list. Please research for yourself. So we know the 4 chariots are coming from the Lord under His authority.

The colored horses come forth
In the first chariot were red horses; and in the second chariot black horses;
Notice the order of the colored horses. Judah's GT starts with the Red Horse (23 years) as did our FGT begin with the Red Horse (2300 Days). Then it states the Black Horse came forth next. This represented Judah's second part outside the holy land matching our second part with our Black Horse outside the Church.

And in the third chariot white horses; and in the fourth chariot grisled and bay horses.
We will see later that the White Horse pares up with the Black Horse during Judah's second part outside the holy land. This leaves the final horses of Grisled & Bay charging out from between the mountains.

Then I answered and said unto the angel that talked with me, What are these, my lordAnd the angel answered and said unto me, These are the four spirits of the heavens, which go forth from standing before the Lord of all the earth.
As stated in verse one, these horses are under the authority of God Himself representing His plan of Judah's 70 year (840 months) great tribulation.

Judah's time in Babylon outside the holy land
The black horses which are therein go forth into the north country; and the white go forth after them; and the grisled go forth toward the south country. And the bay went forth, and sought to go that they might walk to and fro through the earth: and he said, Get you hence, walk to and fro through the earth. So they walked to and fro through the earth.
These Horses all represent separate people groups in different locations during Judah's 2nd part of their GT. We now are told where these Horses all go forth to. We must pay special attention as with all scripture. We read that there were 5 Horses that came forth from the brass mountains and yet verse 4 only describes 4 of these horses as 4 spirits of the Lord. That is because the Black Horse is not one of them, it is representative of the Holy Spirit... we also see this in Revelation 6's four Horses. For it is only He that measures out knowledge, understanding and salvation as we see with the ephah in Zechariah 5 and the scales of measurement in Revelation 6.

The Black Horse (the Holy Spirit) goes forth to the north country (Babylon), as does the White Horse (God's people). The Grisled Horse proceeds to the south country which is the holy land (Judah). Why? Remember that there was a remnant that stayed behind along with a large number of scattered soldiers. The Hebrew word for grisled is "barod" (H1261) which means "spotted". These are they whom stayed within the holy land. They did not adhere to the command to leave Judah.
Jude 1:12   These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots
The Bay Horse went forth and walked to and fro throughout the earth. This can only mean the rest of the world.

The Black and White Horse together
Then cried he upon me, and spake unto me, saying, Behold, these that go toward the north country have quieted my spirit in the north country.
Those 2 Horses that went to the north country (Babylon) were the Black Horse which was the Holy Spirit and the White Horse which was God's people that followed the command to leave Judah. By following the Lord's command and enduring the rest of the 70 year great tribulation outside the holy land, it allowed the holy land to complete its rest.
2 Chronicles 36:21   To fulfil the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had enjoyed her sabbaths: for as long as she lay desolate she kept sabbath, to fulfil threescore and ten years.

CONCLUSION
The colored horses of Judah's great tribulation pertained to their 840 months (70 years). Judah's 2nd part shows that while His people left the holy land (White Horse), they were not alone because He was with them as the Holy Spirit (Black Horse) measuring out knowledge and understanding during a time of tribulation. The Lord gave us additional information here to better understand our FGT Horses. Our Black Horse also measured out (scales) knowledge and understanding only to His people outside the Church (6100 Days). But it also shows that the White Horse was with the Black Horse during the 6100 Days... God's people.

THE COLORED HORSES THROUGHOUT HISTORY
History repeats itself

The colored horses of Judah cover the full 70 year (840 month) great tribulation
Below are three studies referring to the colored horses of Judah's great tribulation, Zechariah 1, 5 and 6.

Judah's 70 year great tribulation

Judah's first 23 years after King Josiah died was represented as a single Red Horse. This was a picture of God's people under affliction within the holyland.

But when we move forward to Judah's second part which consisted of 47 years, we see how the Lord assigns 4 different colored horses to represent  the Holy Spirit and 3 separate people groups.
